Gyms in Berlin and the state of Baden-Wurttemberg reopened on Tuesday, as regional government eased coronavirus restrictions.

Eager fitness lovers were seen entering a McFIT gym in Stuttgart shortly after midnight. In a separate McFIT studio also in Stuttgart members were filmed training during the day time.

"Of course, we have to sometimes remind people because the people are used to being here, to remind them sometimes that they are training too close or that only one person should be in a certain area. But we have divided the zones as clearly as possible to show where the right place to train is," said Markus Thraemer, a district manager at McFIT.

Fitness lovers were also filmed in a John Reed gym in Berlin on Tuesday.

"The showers are blocked off, you have to come training in your sports clothes. You should change before sport. There is a limit on training for 60 minutes, and you should not linger any longer in the club. And of course, uphold the hygiene measures to wash and disinfect your hands, disinfect the equipment, that is very important," said Marcus Adam, John Reed marketing manager.

Both states allowed gyms to reopen if they provide strict health and safety measures, limiting the number of people inside and keeping showers and changing rooms closed for the time being.

Since the beginning of the outbreak, Germany has recorded over 183,800 cases of coronavirus and over 8,500 deaths linked to the disease, according to data compiled by the Johns Hopkins University.
