1 x 16GB USB thumb drive or larger.
1 x External USB hard drive that matches the size of your existing C: drive or a size greater than the data that is currently stored on your existing C: drive.
1 x Brand new unpackaged hard drive.
1 x Working windows computer with at least windows 7 or newer.
1 x Necessary tools or tool kit for installing new hard drive.

5 Step process:
Step 1: Create Windows bootable USB System Repair Disk.

Step 2: Perform System Image Backup.
Open control panel and select view by "Category", then select "Backup and Restore (Windows 7)", then select "Create System Image", launch wizard to perform full image backup.

Step 3: Install your new hard drive.
Pull out the existing C: drive from computer and replace with your new chosen hard drive.

Step 4: Boot computer from USB thumb drive aka newly created system repair disk.
Upon boot up to main menu plugin external USB hard drive containing the image backup, then select "Troubleshooting" from menu on screen and then select "System Image Recovery" and restore selected image.
