Installing Windows 10 Updates on a new computer

When you purchase a new computer you will need to perform the initialization steps then it is a good idea to install updates. The computer could be several updates behind since it was prepared for sale. I recommend using the method in this video to manually initiate and complete updates. Once the first round of updates completes you will see a message indicating the computer is up to date but that is not reliable until you click the check for updates then see an indication there are no more updates.

Any time updates actually get downloaded and installed there can be more updates available because the computer is now able to see additional updates because of the update that just installed.

Windows 10 comes with a default setting to turn the screen off so you may be deceived into thinking the computer is restarting or even turned off the way it happened to me during this video. On most new computers I follow a checklist for setting them up which includes changing the power settings before beginning updates but I was not following my checklist for this computer.
