France reports new post-lockdown coronavirus case record

France has reported its highest daily number of COVID-19 cases since the nation’s two-month lockdown in May.

Just more than 4,800 new cases were recorded in the past 24 hours.

The infection rate soared in the past week but authorities said hospitalisation rates have remained stable.

Just one fatality was recorded overnight, taking the country's total number of deaths to 30,513.
