Quebec Premier François Legault said on Monday that his government will be announcing the plan of gradually reopening restaurants and increasing the limit on indoor gatherings on Monday afternoon.

The premier said that COVID-19 numbers "continue to be encouraging" as the province reported 198 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the provincial total to 53,047.

A total of 4,984 people have died of COVID-19 in Quebec since the pandemic began.

Legault addressed the ongoing anti-racism protests in Canada, the U.S. and other international cities following the death of unarmed Black man George Floyd pinned under police officer's knee on Memorial Day in Minneapolis.

Legault said he will deliver on his promise made last week of implementing an anti-racism policy and that the government will move forward with it “soon,” saying “we must face the reality lived by some of our fellow citizens by taking action.”
